Tempe Hip Frequency

What to change around Tempe when your hip is sore

South Tempe sits close to the Chandler clinic listed on this site. Hip stiffness during a drive can make a nearby office useful. The part of Tempe where you start still affects travel time. I'd choose the office by the trip you'll actually make.

The same practical thinking helps with daily movement. A lake walk, bike commute, steep climb, and pickleball game stress the hip differently. Adjust the one that brings soreness instead of dropping everything. Then you'll see whether walking and sleep are easier the next day.

What to change on Tempe walks and rides

The Tempe Town Lake circuit is close to five miles, and you don't need the whole circuit. Use a shorter out-and-back walk and head home before a limp begins. The Rio Salado path can add more distance than planned. Keep your first walk flat and easy to repeat.

On a bike, a lighter gear can reduce effort at the hip. A slightly higher saddle may also reduce deep bending. Don't test both changes during the same ride. When you get off, check for sharper soreness, catching, or a new limp.

What to change on climbs and courts

In about seven-tenths of a mile, Hayden Butte rises roughly 280 feet. The climb is short, yet the steep grade asks more than flat walking. Try a slower pace and skip another hard activity that day. Coming down may bother the hip even if climbing didn't.

There are sixteen public pickleball courts at Tempe Sports Complex. Fewer games can reduce the quick starts, stops, and side steps. Don't chase wide balls while you're testing a sore hip. If the soreness still rises each week, arrange an exam.

Which clinic trip to take

For most residents, the nearby office is QC Kinetix (Chandler), 1100 S. Dobson Rd., Suite 210, Chandler, AZ 85286. Warner Ranch, Alta Mira, and the Kyrene corridor are roughly five miles away. The drive generally takes ten to twelve minutes outside busy periods. Check traffic before leaving.

Starting in central Tempe, stay on McClintock until the name changes to Dobson at the Chandler boundary. Broadmor, Daley Park, and Alameda are about fifteen to seventeen minutes away outside peak traffic. Downtown Tempe and the university district are usually about eighteen to twenty minutes off-peak. QC Kinetix (Chandler) has medical providers, who check the sore hip and provide the treatment, to explain non-surgical regenerative care such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP); your blood is drawn and spun, then the prepared plasma is placed at the sore spot with a needle.

  1. The 2026 Cochrane update of exercise for hip osteoarthritis (18 trials, 1368 participants) found that against attention control or placebo, exercise may have little to no effect on pain (MD -6.31 points on 0-100, 95% CI -12.98 to 0.35, low certainty) and may improve physical function only slightly; against no treatment or usual care it probably reduces pain slightly (MD -7.19, 95% CI -10.70 to -3.68, moderate certainty) but the review states these improvements are unlikely to be clinically meaningful. This is a weaker result than the equivalent knee evidence and it must not be overstated.

A Cochrane review of 13 aquatic-exercise trials (1190 participants with knee or hip OA) found small, short-term but clinically relevant improvements in pain (SMD -0.31, 95% CI -0.47 to -0.15) and disability (SMD -0.32), corresponding to about a five-point improvement on a 0-100 scale, with no serious adverse events reported.

  3. A meta-analysis of 14 epidemiological studies found a 5-unit increase in body mass index was associated with an 11% higher risk of hip osteoarthritis (RR 1.11, 95% CI 1.07-1.16), with no significant difference by sex or study design. The association is real but considerably weaker than the corresponding association at the knee.

A JAMA review of hip and knee osteoarthritis reports OA affects more than 240 million people worldwide and more than 32 million in the US, names pain elicited with internal hip rotation as a diagnostically useful hip examination finding, identifies exercise, weight loss where appropriate and education as the cornerstones of management complemented by topical or oral NSAIDs, notes intra-articular steroid gives short-term relief, and states that opiates should be avoided.

What to bring to a consultation

Note the sore area, its start date, and the task that makes it worse. Add changes in sleep, walking, and past care. You'll also need your medicine list and any X-ray report.

QC Kinetix can discuss non-surgical options for hip soreness. The nearby office for most Tempe residents is the Chandler location on South Dobson. Call (602) 837-PAIN to confirm the visit and current travel details.
